Imagine deep blue water meeting a tropical green forest, humid air moving through the trees, warm skin touched by sea salt and old wood drying somewhere along the shore.

That is the world of MERAUKE AZURE.

MERAUKE AZURE opens with an unusual sense of coolness and open air. It smells humid yet fresh, like standing where dense green forest reaches the edge of the sea. There is salt in the air, damp wood beneath it and a faint mineral quality that immediately gives the fragrance its blue-green character.

It is oceanic, but not in the familiar “marine perfume” sense. There is no obvious synthetic sea breeze. Instead, it feels natural, slightly wild and atmospheric  wet timber, coastal vegetation, mineral air and the distant warmth of sun-dried shells.

As it settles, the cool opening begins to soften. A creamy white-floral warmth appears through the woods, giving the fragrance a more sensual, skin-like character. At the same time, something quietly strange develops underneath a dry, toasted, almost nutty warmth. It is subtle enough that you may not immediately identify but it makes you return to your wrist wondering what you are smelling.

This contrast is the heart of MERAUKE AZURE.

Cool against warm.

The oud gradually becomes deeper and more textured without becoming heavy. It moves from cool green wood into something balmy, earthy, softly smoky and faintly animalic. There is a beautiful salty quality running through it, almost like skin after swimming in the sea and drying naturally in the sun.

Hours later, the fragrance sits much closer to the body. What remains is a smooth veil of dry woods, soft smoke, mineral saltiness, creamy florals and warm muskiness. Occasionally that peculiar toasted warmth reappears giving the dry down an addictive texture.

MERAUKE AZURE does not enter a room before you do. Its beauty is more intimate. It moves with body heat disappears for moments and then unexpectedly comes back.

If you expect a dark, medicinal or aggressively animalic oud this is something quite different.
